Global Shop prices updated!

Posted by EagleRock

Well, I hope you people took advantage of the Wool and Dye price drops, beacuse the prices are back to normal! You can now sell those items you stocked up on for over twice you bought it for!

Also, I have tweaked the price of several of the basic goods. Dirt, Cobblestone, Sand, and Gravel will now yield you more Talons than before. Hopefully this will help those miners that can't seem to keep their coffers full of Talons. :-) Enjoy!

Unofficial hMod updated to Build 134 Alpha 14!

Posted by EagleRock

I'm making this one a quick post. More bugs fixed. Closer to a stable build:

Bugs I have confirmed to be fixed:

  1. Redstone appears to be working 100% of the time at this point. There is a bug where a lever's status might not update right away, but it will flip its signal when clicked.
  2. The bug where you could place blocks where you were standing is fixed.

Bugs that are known to be unfixed:

  1. The HUD doesn't have the extra effect from the patch update where the items grow larger then shrink back to normal size to indicate you picked something up.
  2. If you lay a birch tree, the white trees, they'll come out as normal brown trees. (I'm assuming this won't work, but this can't be tested until we generate new terrain).

Last chance on my wool and dye discounts, by the way! I want to bring the economy back to normal to allow people to sell those items again. Again, the details are in this post. Enjoy!

Unofficial hMod updated to Build 134 Alpha 11!

Posted by EagleRock

UPDATE: All issues tested and either confirmed fixed or still existant.

Me again... :-)

The surviving hMod is getting more stable by the day, as issues keep getting resolved bit by bit. We are basically able to use all of the new items from the Beta 1.2 release and feel very little bugs as a result. Here's a bug/feature rundown:

Bugs I have confirmed to be fixed:

  1. Spawning items could only be done in single stacks of 64...no more. I am unsure if this affected iConomy, but it should be fine at this point.
  2. Redstone appears to be working 100% of the time at this point. There is a bug where a lever's status might not update right away, but it will flip its signal when clicked.
  3. All GriefAlert issues appear to be fixed. No issues detected.
  4. iStick appears to be working 100%.

Bugs that are known to be unfixed:

  1. You are able to places blocks on the square you are standing on again.
  2. The HUD doesn't have the extra effect from the patch update where the items grow larger then shrink back to normal size to indicate you picked something up.
  3. If you lay a birch tree, the white trees, they'll come out as normal brown trees. (I'm assuming this won't work, but this can't be tested until we generate new terrain).

As always, bug testing is greatly appreciated. There's not much to test, which is great news!

Also, my price slashing is still in effect, but will not be for much longer! Make sure to read this post if you have not yet to see the details! Even if you hate pixel art, you won't want to miss out on this opportunity!

Otherwise, everything is status quo. Make sure to have fun and keep me abreast of any issues you come across!

Unofficial hMod updated to Build 134 Alpha 10!

Posted by EagleRock

We're inching closer to a stable server build! It looks as though we are no longer experiencing regressions, as we are not on the kMod build, but rather Meaglin's build. So, rather than announcing the whole list of bugs we had in the past, I will only announce what has been fixed, and what is still not working:

Bugs I have confirmed to be fixed:

  1. Sign placement is fixed. You will no longer throw an exception and get disconnected.
  2. Animals now spawn properly. Also, squid will now spawn in WATER, not on land.
  3. LWC is now working again. Your chests are now protected!
  4. The HUD performance issues appear to be resolved. If you have problems, please ask me for assistance rather than just criticize my server and disconnect. I can help you fix performance problems.

Bugs that are known to be unfixed:

  1. Occasionally, Redstone will not work, especially right after a server restart. However, it works most of the time and is otherwise unaffected.
  2. GriefAlert is not working 100%. It will work most of the time, but will occasionally not update properly, similar to the redstone issue.
  3. iStick is not working 100%. It can remove blocks, but not place new ones or substitute blocks. I believe iStick requires an update to work again.
  4. The HUD doesn't have the extra effect from the patch update where the items grow larger then shrink back to normal size to indicate you picked something up.
  5. If you lay a birch tree, the white trees, they'll come out as normal brown trees. (I'm assuming this won't work, but this can't be tested until we generate new terrain).

Please let me know if there is a bug I have not listed on the site. Also, the big discounts from the previous post are still in effect! Make sure to read it if you have not already!

WE’RE KARATE-A CHOPPING-A PRICES-A JUST-A FO YOU!!!

Posted by EagleRock

Hi, I'm Eagle. From the only and only Eagle's Pixel Art! With new locations in Homeless Hill and The Badlands!

Those of you not getting the reference will find this helpful...

Anyway, in light of pixel art going FRIGGIN RAMPANT on Eaglewold, I'm doing my part to keep the fun rolling. I am temporarily making all wool and wool dye supplies 75% OFF!! Enjoy your pixel art, folks!

Only one catch: Catcuses are NOT discounted. Why? There are plenty of cactus farmers out there. Give them your business, not the global shop!

Feel the discount is too late? Don't worry...stock up now! Why? The price will go back up eventually. You'll eventually be able to sell items to the global shop for more than you can buy it right now. STOCK UP!!! IT IS A GUARANTEED TALONMAKER!!!

Anyway, everything else is status quo on the server. Minecraft.net is still rocky, but Eagleworld is staying rather stable. Enjoy!

while (TRUE) fork();

Posted by EagleRock

EDIT: - Updated the list with bugs that are fixed and not fixed.

First off a disclaimer: if you don't know what the code does in the title of this post, don't try to run it. You'll thank me later.

Anyway, it's been a really frustrating day trying to deal with the massive bugs left in kMod, as well as the ridiculously difficult endeavor it takes to just log on a server thanks to minecraft.net's issues. I've been working all day on finding a solution to the one issue I DO have control over, which is the version of hMod we're using.

As it turns out, kMod is very unstable, but there is another unofficial fork of the kMod plugin floating around out there. Turns out a guy named meaglin, who has access to hMod's official git repo, has released a new version called "hMod 134 Alpha 2." It is currently in a more stable state than kMod, and I naturally adopted it immediately.

I am very glad to say the server is running in a much better state now. I believe you will find most of the bugs happily removed, save for a select few. It will definitely make life easier to deal with. Working with the list I've been using all along, here's a detailed bug status so far:

Bugs I have confirmed to be fixed:

  1. iConomy and iCShop appear to be working 100%.
  2. Opening chests with an item in-hand works as it should. It will not place down a block as a result of opening the chest.
  3. All of the duplication bugs appear to have been resolved.
  4. Buckets work properly.
  5. All food works as it should.
  6. Eggs and snowballs can now be thrown again.
  7. Bows and arrows work properly.
  8. Ladders can now be placed properly.
  9. All new blocks (colored wool, sandstone, lapis lazuli, etc.) can be used.
  10. Torches and stairs can be placed with no orientation issues.
  11. You can now use dye on blocks and place it properly.
  12. You can use dye on sheep properly.
  13. Animals are spawning normally.
  14. Boats can now be properly placed, as well as ridden.
  15. Items and block placed on snow will place properly.
  16. The HUD performance issues appear to be resolved. If you have problems, please ask me for assistance. I can help you.
  17. Placing blocks on the square you're standing on appears to be fixed.

Bugs that are known to be unfixed:

  1. Redstone does not currently work 100%. While it works for the majority of the time, items such as levers, pressure plates, and buttons will not work. If this occurs, just wait it out, and it'll work.
  2. GriefAlert is not working 100%. It will work most of the time, but will occasionally not update properly, similar to the redstone issue.
  3. iStick is not working 100%. It can remove blocks, but not place new ones or substitute blocks.

As you can see, many things this server relies on are working. The largest impediment is that some things don't work all the time, but otherwise, most things work well.

As always, if you can help me confirm bugs that need confirmation or let me know if a bug is not fixed when I say it is, please let me know and I will update the list accordingly. Thanks!

P.S. - For those of you ridiculously inquisitive, the code in the post title is what's called a forkbomb. Check it out on Wikipedia if you're really interested.

P.P.S. - If you really just feel like beating the shit out of your computer and have access to a Perl interpreter, just go right ahead and run "fork while fork" in it. Have fun!

Reverting kMod, Minecraft.net, and Blog Updates

Posted by EagleRock

What a day. It's been a rough one, for sure. I have three major points of news to cover...

Firstly: www.minecraft.net is still flapping up and down due Mojang's web server migration. The website is still only connecting sporadically, which causes great difficulty with logging into Eagleworld. Our server is up and running as always, but it may take as many as 20 tries to get logged in due to the overloaded authorization server. Notch has not provided updates since the last post, so we just have to wait and see what happens.

Secondly: In testing the newer versions of kMod (both 0.9 and 0.9.1), I was notified by several users that a major regression occurred: colored blocks do not work in either of those two versions of kMod. While 0.9+ has fixed several other issues we were having (such as stairs not orienting properly when placed), the lack of colored wool blocks is too large of a regression to leave be. As such, I have rolled back Eagleworld to version 0.8.5 of kMod until a new version is released.

Unfortunately, the bugs we were experiencing in 0.8.5 will have to stay for a little while later. Consult the previous post (LINK) to see the details.

Lastly: I have added two new big updates to the Eagleworld.net Minecraft blog you will be interested in. The first is a comprehensive help page (found here) which answers the majority of questions I get about getting around Eagleworld. The second is a live server status update for both Eagleworld's Minecraft server and Minecraft.net. The Eagleworld Minecraft server status checks to see if the processes are running on Delorean every time you load the page. This gives you a to-the-second status on the server status. The Minecraft.net status pings www.minecraft.net and sees its response time. If it responds within a second, it lists minecraft.net as up. No response or a delayed response gives a down status. The reason for the one-second cap is that if minecraft.net does not respond in 1 second, it is under heavy load (just like now) and will cause major delays and problems logging in.

Hopefully these blog updates will make your life easier and let it be a more useful resource in regards to Minecraft overall. Ideally, I would like the blog to be a one-stop shop for all of your Minecraft news, and I believe these updates bring it one step closer to that goal.

Now let's just hope Mojang gets their web server working right soon...

kMod Updated to v0.9.1 and Minecraft.net issues

Posted by EagleRock

Hey everyone!

Well, kMod was updated again today to resolve an issue with the Stargate plugin. While Eagleworld does not use this plugin, the fix could also fix other issues in the process. Therefore, I have updated to the latest version. I still need people to help me test what is in fact working and what is not. Note that the stuff that was previously working must be tested as well, as we could have come across regressions during the updating process.

One other important note is that minecraft.net is currently down due to web server migration. You can get the latest update on Notch's tumblr (located here). Since Eagleworld checks to see if you have a registered account before you can join (to protect against others using your username), you will not be able to connect until this is resolved.

I recommend checking Notch's blog occasionally and also using the Down or Not website to check (go here to see if minecraft.net is actually down for everyone still. Also, if you are able to connect to the webpage, you will be able to connect to the server in-game.

Again, if I can get help seeing what bugs we are still experiencing, I can do my best to help alleviate them. The list of bugs we need to check are below. Thanks again!

Bugs that were fixed in 0.8.5 but need regression testing:

  1. Opening chests with items in hand now works as it should.
  2. The duplication bugs have been resolved.
  3. Placing blocks on yourself no longer occurs.
  4. Buckets work properly now.
  5. All food works as it should.
  6. Eggs and snowballs can now be thrown again.
  7. Ladders can now be placed properly.
  8. All new blocks are now able to be placed.
  9. Regular torches can now be placed with no orientation issues.
  10. Animals are spawning normally.
  11. You can now use dye on blocks and place it properly.
  12. You can use dye on sheep properly.
  13. Redstone is strange when the server first starts up but will return to normal working state after the server is running for a few minutes. Levers also work strange initially but work after the same amount of time.
  14. HUD experience no delays or slowdowns since the latest update.
  15. Boats can now be properly placed, as well as ridden.
  16. Torches now properly get placed on snow.

Bugs I have not confirmed either way:

  1. If you lay a birch tree, the white trees, they'll come out as normal brown trees.
  2. Any other block placed on snow floats.. (Guessing this happens with steps too and floor plates.}
  3. Using a bow with arrow in your inventory makes the shooting sound and decreases the number of arrows you have, but the arrows are not shot, or if they are, they are invisible, do no damage, and cannot be picked up.
  4. iStick is currently not working.
  5. GriefAlert is not working 100% reporting should now be resolved as of 0.9).
  6. The HUD doesn't have the extra effect from the patch update where the items grow larger then shrink back to normal size to indicate you picked something up.
  7. Stairs still have the orientation bug where they will only face North.
  8. Need to test whether redstone torches can be placed without the orientation bug.
  9. Need to test LWC.

Bugs that are known to be unfixed:

  1. None yet...need to test!

kMod updated to v0.9!

Posted by EagleRock

Well, hclewk is working extra-hard on kMod, and things are starting to shape up very quickly, and very nicely. He has recently updated kMod again early in the morning (twice!), which should fix more issues that we have been experiencing. Server is now fully updated to Minecraft Beta 1.2_01 and kMod 0.9. According to hclewk, this update should fix several plugins that use right-clicking, including LWC! Here's a new rundown of the bugs we've been experiencing, what has been resolved, and what has not. As you can see, most of the stuff is fixed by now:

  2. Any other block placed on snow floats.. (Guessing this happens with steps too and floor plates.}

Again, as with the previous update, please please please help me test this stuff so I can get a confirmation either way. If you can confirm whether or not a bug is still occurring on the server, it'd help me big time.

New Items Added to Global Shop

Posted by EagleRock

Hey, everyone!

Just a quick note that since new blocks are working as of the latest kMod update, I have updated iConomy to include all the new item names. Also, the Global Shop now sells all new raw goods, such as Lapis Lazuli and Ink Sacks. I have also added the old items that now have a purpose for dyeing, such as Red Roses and Yellow Flowers.

If you wish to take a look at the new Global Shop listings and prices, I have created a page on the blog for it. Just click on "Global Shop" in the menu above or click here to access it.

Please note I am still in need of confirmation for the bug fixes in the previous post. If you have updates for me, please let me know in-game and I will update the post accordingly. Thanks!
