Eagleworld is in 1.9 Prerelease Testing Mode!

EDIT 2: Minecraft 1.9 Prerelease 3 is now out.  Please use the following link to download.  This is the direct link to to the .jar as hosted on assets.minecraft.net, so it is the safest link to use: LINK

EDIT: Get the Minecraft prerelease .jar here: LINK. The Minecraft Forums posted the wrong version.

Hey, everyone!

Well, I took a poll last night to see what everyone wanted to do while we wait for 1.9 to be fully released.  Unanimously, everyone wanted me to put out a 1.9 prerelease server with a temporary new map to hold us over.  So, that's what I'm rolling out today.

Here's the basics of Testing Mode:

  • The server's version is now 1.9pre2, so you will need to manually download the prerelease version and install it (instructions below)
  • There are NO server mods since Bukkit is not available for 1.9 yet
  • All Mods and Admins have OP privileges on the server
  • Users can gain access to Creative Mode for now by asking a mod or an admin nicely
  • The map will not be saved at all once we move fully to 1.9
  • Even though this is a temporary map, the rules of the server will be enforced.

Here's how to connect to Eagleworld:

  1. Download the latest prerelease minecraft jar file located at this minecraft forum post. THIS site. This site lol
  2. Make sure Minecraft is closed completely.
  3. Open up your Minecraft bin directory:
    • Windows XP users: Click Start -> Run, type %APPDATA%\.minecraft\bin and hit Enter.
    • Windows Vista/7 users: Click Start -> type %APPDATA%\.minecraft\bin in the search field and hit Enter.
    • Mac OS X: in Finder menu, click Go -> Home, and navigate to Library/Application Support/minecraft/bin.
    • Linux: using your directory viewer of choice or the command-line, navigate to ~/.minecraft/bin.
  4. Rename the minecraft.jar file (the ".jar" may not show up if you do not have file extensions viewable) to "minecraft1.8.1.jar" (or just "minecraft1.8.1" if the .jar is not showing).
  5. Move the minecraft.jar file you downloaded into the directory.
  6. Restart Minecraft and connect to Eagleworld.

And that's it...you're ready to go.  Feel free to build around, have fun, and do whatever.  Just remember the map is temporary and will be deleted.

Oh, and just in case you didn't see it last post:

Formal town applications are being accepted

As another stopgap while we are waiting to fully migrate over, I will start accepting town applications.  If you seriously want to start a town on the server, please head over to the Server Info page and check out the "Starting a Town" policy.  Prospective mayors need to have all the information ready I outlined there, with the exception of an exact location, of course.  Instead, let me know of the type of area you want (size, layout, biome, etc.) and if I approve your town, you'll be allowed to pick one out once the new permanent map is generated.

Any questions about the testing mode or town applications, please find me on the server (I'll probably be on console), skype me, tweet me, or just leave a comment here.  Thanks!

  1. number 4 says “Rename the minecraft.bin directory…” just for sake of clarity, it’s a file not a directory and it’s “minecraft.jar” :)

  2. i dont know exactly what im doing and im really confused

  3. it works outside of the browser. thanks yo

  4. I changed my bin, got the error that I am not current, my login states prerelease however

  5. when I removed the minecraft1.8 backup ( I made per the directions) i was able to attempt the server

  6. followed the guide about 3 times now and I keep getting at the update screen, which says “done loading”, but there is still some of the loading bar not filled up. and it just stays like that til I exit.

  7. 1.9 pre 3 is out now. Whenever Pete decides to update to it, here is the link
    http://t.co/dt3IlVp6

    • I updated the server and the link to the .jar. I went straight to the source, though, as some people have said that they got a virus from the old links. The old links were from redirect sites such as bit.ly or t.co, so it’s possible they are switching the redirect back and forth. The link I used is straight from assets.minecraft.net.

  8. are we going to go to 1.9 pre 3?

  9. I’ll be back when 1.9 is released for real. Have fun y’all!

  10. i want in 1.9 to go off into somewhere dark and build something aweful that eats at the heart of the viewer and makes them want to leave and not come back. who’s town can i join???????

    • LOL! How about the great town of “Single Player?”

Seriously, though, from the town applications I’ve seen so far, I’d talk with openminded. You might have the best fit there.

      • i dont even know how to make something disturbing out of cubes. i wasnt going to but i may google it later to see if someone else has.

  11. 1.9 pre 4 is out now. http://t.co/OTGZst6b

    • omg omg omg omg omg omg i think i have that sydrome i saw this downloaded it right away but wow the end is here and looks cool kinda though i cant as of yet find my way back

      • i made a 3tall ceiling and started just spinning
now i have lots of enderpearls and levels

        • excellent idea i just flew above them and trashed them that way lol. but hey that way i dont have to use fly i can just sit i love it. btw poast i was gonna see about having an underground portion of my town should it be approved, you could be the leader there and design it anyway you want. it would need to be like at least 10 blocks below the bottom of the valley, and i was gonna call it the rogue district there would be a secret way to enter that only mayors and council men and rogues would know

  12. for all those who want dragons here http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11953124/Minecraft/1.9/kt.class
