Download the latest prerelease minecraft jar file above.
Make sure Minecraft is closed completely.
Open up your Minecraft bin directory:
Windows XP users: Click Start -> Run, type %APPDATA%\.minecraft\bin and hit Enter.
Windows Vista/7 users: Click Start -> type %APPDATA%\.minecraft\bin in the search field and hit Enter.
Mac OS X: in Finder menu, click Go -> Home, and navigate to Library/Application Support/minecraft/bin.
Linux: using your directory viewer of choice or the command-line, navigate to ~/.minecraft/bin.
Rename the minecraft.jar file (the ".jar" may not show up if you do not have file extensions viewable) to "minecraft1.8.1.jar" (or just "minecraft1.8.1" if the .jar is not showing).
Move the minecraft.jar file you downloaded into the directory.
Restart Minecraft and connect to Eagleworld.
If you are getting a version error, go back to the Appdata folder, navigate to .minecraft, and delete the bin directory. Start up Minecraft to re-download 1.8, then repeat steps 1-6.
Town Applications
So far, I have received a few town applications, and wanted to give all members of Eagleworld the view of the potential towns so far. Please note that NO TOWNS HAVE YET BEEN APPROVED, with the exception of Capitol City (duh). These are merely the towns I have gotten applications for so far. You can use this as a guide to see what is already out there to see what people's ideas are, and figure out if you want to pledge to a particular town. Expand the spoilers below to get a preview of each town:
Spoiler Inside: Capitol City - EagleRock
Basic Application
Name: Capitol City
Mayor: EagleRock
Status: Approved
Pledging Citizens: BigX2021, Melany23
Location: Around spawn point, with multiple biomes based on district
Theme: Large metropolis with multiple districts for the central governing land, player shops, artistic creations, hilly homesteads, small, close-knit village-style homes, industrial buildings/farmland, and a large downtown district for larger residences.
How it will be run: The Capitol will comply to the Townymod plot system to allow users to protect their property as they see fit. No taxes will be applied to the citizens. All plots for citizens will be free but require approval by the Mayor. Every member of Eagleworld will get one free store in the Capitol Mall. Plots and/or additional stores for non-citizens will be given out on a per-user basis and charge.
The new Capitol City will be similarly-themed to the old one. The town will be built around spawn and will be the center hub of the Eagleworld infrastructure. The town will feature six major districts, each with their own individual theme and purposes:
The Loop
The municipal district of Capitol City, with the Spawn Point in the center.
Will feature most public and governmental buildings, such as the new Capitol Building, a welcome center, public workshops and item sharing, courtrooms, police/jail, and the like
A new tower, to be named the Petros Tower, will be built above spawn and will be at the convergence of two major highways. It will feature a new-user spawn point at the top, a welcome center with displayed rules and information, as well as a standard spawn point at the ground level
An elevated subway system, to be named the Orange Line (or the O-Line), will border the Capitol Loop and be built above a highway loop
Marketplace District
The commercial district of the town, with the majority of the area taken up by player shops
The Capitol Mall, a huge mall built around the styling of the Garden State Plaza (and other major malls) will be the new home of all user's player shops.
Every player on Eagleworld is entitled to one free player shops inside the Capitol Mall
The Global Shop, a large store near the mall, will be the new location to purchase and sell items from the server. It will feature its own warp point for ease-of-use.
Creative District
The district of Capitol City to feature all user art, museums, and the like
The area will preferably be hilly (but not a mountain biome)
All users' art and creations will be allowed here, including pixel art
The Capitol City museums will be featured here as well, including a planned redstone museum
The Heights
A residential district of Capitol City, centered around the mountain biome
Roads will be elevated bridges around the district
User homes will still conform to the plot system in Towny
Homes will be able to be placed on top or cut into the mountain
Specifically for a more secluded feel and for creative use of mountain terrain
Will feature the mayor's home, Eagle Mansion
Will also feature Capitol City's parks and recreational areas
The Village
A smaller district of Capitol City, featuring small plots in a condensed area.
Specifically designed for a close-knit neighborhood feel, with tight zoning and opportunities for adjoined walls
Perfect for users that wish to experiment with smaller homes, and also to create joined townhomes
Shorter homes (or ones that take advantage of the underground area) are encouraged for this district
Downtown Capitol City
A larger district of Capitol City, specifically for larger homes and a very regimented citylike feel
The streets will conform to a very strict grid, ala Manhattan in New York City
Multiple plots will be fit on a block, allowing for larger homes
Towers and taller stuctures are encoraged in this district
Industrial District
A dedicated district for users to place their workshops, farmlands, or other utilitarian structures besides their store and their home

As I get more town applications, I will post them here.
awsome work pete thanks we really needed a place for ppl to see the proposed towns also pre 4 yayayayayayayay im so happy btw if anyone wants dragons i posted a link for the mod to spawn them in the pre 3 area i hate reposting things also it works in smp but no one else but you can see them (thank god cause i really scared my self they break block when flying through them but they cant do that in smp) i realeased one way away from spawn and it flew straight there like a arrow
they sound nice so far, i’ll join a town like i did the first time i did. whoever hounds me to join thier town (like put downs on other towns, bribes that never actually happen, and bragging about your town.) the best gets it.
yes download pre 4 link above then copy and paste the file it should be called minecraft.jar into your bin folder located in %appdata%/minecraft for win or application support in mac and if you want to keep playing 1.8 i suggest you copy the current minecraft.jar file that is there and put it somwhere then you can just copy paste the appropriate file for the version you want to play fyi it says outdated client because your jar is 1.8 and the server is 1.9 pre 4
the only other thing i could suggest is to delete your minecraft bin entirely and let it re update to 1.8.1 then continue with the intructions above, note just delete the bin if you delete the whole folder containing the bin you will lose your saves.
yes tim i know still no grammar im working on it really i am trust me.
I know I haven’t played in ages (work got really crazy) but I’ve been trying to keep up with the blog and with 1.9 coming out I thought I might try to play again. I managed to get logged in today but couldn’t get my console working, is there anything new I need to do with 1.9 that I missed or have I forgotten something or do I just need to log in when other people are on to get my permissions setup again? Either way I hope all is well.
not sure if your an admin or moderator i don’t see you on the list however that doesn’t mean much atm but if you are i assume pete would have to give you your op privileges but if your referring to warps and what not the server is running vanilla right now so there are not any warps or other things we had in 1.7.3. check the “eagleworld is in 1.9 prerelease testing mode” post for more info.
Oh my bad, I read that but I guess I always assumed being able to open the console to at least see chat was a default, never realized that was a mod too.
Hmm. My plan was to build a castle on a rock with a big, fortified bridge connecting it to the mainland. Looks like that would fit best in either Capitol’s Heights or perhaps Ironforge. I’ll see what has the best plot once the map’s generated!
Oh, by the way – just to confirm, the map we use when 1.9 rolls around is going to be a different one, right? So there’s no point scouting nice locations?
Not sure if this is where I do this, but here it goes…
BattleToads’ Super Awesome Happy Fun Time Town Application:
Name: Onette
Mayor: BattleToads
Pledging Citizens: Aislyn10, SnarlyCharly44
Location: Any forest biome will do.
Theme: This will be a replica of Onette (Ness’ home town) from EarthBound, the game we all know and love.
How it will be run: Very laid back, open atmosphere. It is expected that members share their items/resources with other players (within reason) and they will do the same for you. (OMG COMMUNISM) Only rules are the official server rules. Basically, don’t be an idiot. Any houses or buildings built must either be a direct replica of a building from Onette or use a similar color scheme. I will be happy to help out in this regard. Flaming netherrack buildings, for example, would completely destroy the atmosphere of the town.
Additional Description: I feel it is important to recreate the landmark buildings from the game such as Ness’ house (I call dibs), the hospital, drugstore, runaway five van, etc. Some of these buildings can be quite large (such as the hospital) and will require a town effort to complete, though it should be a rich and rewarding experience for all.
The most difficult aspect of building this town, I feel, would be the proportioning. It is somewhat awkward to take a 2D 16-bit game and translate it into the 3D world of MineCraft. With a little brainstorming however, we should make it work fairly easily.
You could’ve just chained it off the latest post, but this is fine here…I got it and I can work with this.
Application looks good so far. I may have a few questions for you which I can always ask over Skype. I’m making a new post in the near future with the status of towns, and I’ll include you in on it.
In the meantime, if you want to find a location for the town if it gets approved, please do so. You can set one of your homes to it or something so I can see where it is.

I’ve been trying to connect for awhile now. Keeps saying outdated client. I’ve followed the guide many times.
Is it possibly because my minecraft was updated with 1.8 when it initially came out? Any way to revert that?
